How will you spend your summer? One of the Puget Sound women’s basketball players will spend her break – or at least part of it – representing the United States while playing basketball in Brazil.
Junior forward Amanda Forshay has been selected to the 2014 USA Division III Women’s Basketball Team for this summer and will spend eight days touring the biggest country in South America with the squad.
"I am very excited for Amanda and this opportunity in front of her,” said Puget Sound head coach Loree Payne on Forshay’s involvement on the team. “It's an honor for her to be named to the team and I know she will be an incredible representative for our program and for Puget Sound."
Forshay and the rest of the USA D3 team will meet up in Orlando on July 21 for orientation and practice before departing for Sao Paulo, Brazil, the next day. The team will play three games in the state of Sao Paulo between regional teams before heading to Rio de Janeiro for a July 28 contest. Forshay and the squad will return to Orlando on July 30 after experiencing numerous aspects of Brazilian life and touring popular Brazilian landmarks such as the Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf.
Forshay will not be the only player from the Northwest Conference on the tour as a pair of Whitman players join her on Team USA. Tiffani Trayer and Meghan White are also heading to Brazil during the summer.
