Women's basketball heads across town to take on Lutes

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound women's basketball team travels to cross-town rival, Pacific Lutheran, for a mid-week showdown. The Loggers will play the Lutes on Tuesday.

Puget Sound's last week

The Loggers (22-1, 14-0 NWC) remained undefeated in league play last weekend. They took down No. 15/13 Whitman, 89-82 in overtime, before defeating Whitworth, 78-58. Puget Sound's victory over Whitman was the fourth win over a ranked team this year (George Fox). Jamie Lange recorded a double-double in each of the games.


With their win over Whitworth on Saturday, the Loggers clinched the Northwest Conference regular-season title. It is the program's first outright NWC regular-season title. Puget Sound have shared the crown three times: 2007-08 (George Fox), 2006-07 (George Fox), and 2003-04 (Whitman).


Jamie Lange has recorded three consecutive double-doubles, and has four overall this year. Lange was named the NWC Student-Athlete of the Week after a double-double against Willamette in which she scored 21 points and pulled down 18 rebounds. She has scored in double figures for the last 13 games, and is averaging 11.4 ppg. She is second in the league for rebounding, averaging 8.1 boards per game.

Scouting the Lutes (1-22, 0-14 NWC)

Pacific Lutheran most recently fell to Whitman, 73-43, and Whitworth, 72-60. The team's one win this season came against Warner Pacific on Dec. 8 (71-47). The team scores 54.0 points per game, led by Lacey Nicholson (11.6 ppg). Nicholson also leads the squad in rebounding, with 5.9 boards per game. Samantha Kelleigh (10.6 ppg, 2.0 rpg) also score in double figures. The Loggers defeated the Lutes, 91-58, in their first meeting this season (Jan. 17).
