SPOKANE, Washington – Tayla MacPherson's third goal of the season gave the Puget Sound women's soccer team a 1-0 win at Whitworth Sunday afternoon, while Jamie Lange and the Logger defense continue to dominate.
The victory allows Puget Sound (8-4-2, 7-1-2) to move into sole possession of the second place in the Northwest Conference, just one half game behind Willamette.
The Loggers will finish the regular season unbeaten against the teams from eastern Washington, as they hold a 3-0-1 combined record against Whitworth and Whitman.
MacPherson netted the game-winner in the 69th minute. She received a pass from CeAnn Romanaggi at the top of the 18-yard box, and buried a shot in the bottom-right corner of the goal.
Lange recorded four saves to blank the opposition for the fifth consecutive game. She has not allowed a goal in the last 677 minutes of game action.
The top two teams in the NWC go head-to-head on East Field Saturday, Oct. 20, at 12 p.m.
