TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound women's tennis team ran its winning streak to three matches with a 7-2 win over Pacific Lutheran on Wednesday night. The Loggers (6-8, 5-5 NWC) won five of six singles matches to key the win.
After dropping the #1 doubles match 8-4, Ada Yu and Maddie Thiesse won by the same score over Allison McClure and Katie Patton in the #3 match to even the score at 1-1. Marissa Friedman and Logan Thompson then edged Cara Wigen and Valery Jorgensen 9-8 in the #2 match for an early 2-1 Loggers lead.
The singles portion of the match belonged to the Loggers as they won five matches in straight sets. Madison Holtz earned a 7-6, 6-0 win in the #1 match over Wigen. In the #3 match, Thompson earned another Logger win 6-0, 6-1. Thiesse's 6-3, 6-0 win in the #4 match earned another point for the Logger. Josie Dow kept the Loggers rolling with a 6-3, 6-0 win in the #5 match over Katie Patton. Friedman then finished off the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Catherine Miolla at #6.
Leah Newell defeated Jenna Gerdsen 6-3, 6-0 in the #2 match for the Lutes only singles win.
The Loggers remain home this week for two more matches, starting with a 4 p.m. match against Pacific on Friday.
