Loggers Sweep Through Day One of 2011 Season

TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound volleyball team made it a clean sweep through the first day of the 2011 season with a 3-1 victory over UC Santa Cruz. Stephanie O'Connor had a breakout game with 15 kills and 23 digs.

The Loggers (2-0) and Banana Slugs (0-2) battled through four sets with the Loggers eventually capturing the 25-23, 21-25, 25-16, 26-24 victory. Jackie Harvey led the Loggers with 16 more kills to add to her 13 kills from this morning.

As a team, the Loggers tallied 11 total blocks and 12 more service aces. O'Connor added three aces while Erika Greene had three aces and 42 assists.

Katherine Grow slammed down 14 kills to lead the Banana Slugs.

Nicolette Reynaud made her Logger debut against UCSC with four kills and 5.5 blocks.

The Loggers are slated to host Whitworth tomorrow at 11 a.m. and PLU tomorrow at 5 p.m.

Loggers Sweep By UW-Stout

TACOMA, Wash. – Jackie Harvey tallied 13 kills to boost the No. 22 Puget Sound volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of UW-Stout on Friday in the opening match of the Puget Sound Volleyball Tournament. The Loggers hit .312 as a team en route to the 25-10, 25-20, 25-16 victory.

Brynn Blickenstaff and Jaime Ecklund each added seven kills to the Loggers effort. Erika Greene dished out 25 assists and added four service aces. As a team, the Loggers tallied 13 service aces to the Blue Devils' six.

The Loggers breezed through the first set but came out slow in the second as the Blue Devils built a 6-1 lead. However, the Loggers fought back to take the set. They kept momentum in the third set to cruise to the victory.

Hope Weilage led the Blue Devils, who hit .078 as a team, with six kills. The Loggers will take the court later today when they face UC Santa Cruz at 3 p.m.
