HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The 16th-ranked Puget Sound women's volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season 25-20, 25-21, 25-23 to top-ranked Christopher Newport on Friday. Jackie Harvey had another double-double with 14 kills and 14 digs to lead the Loggers (4-1).
The Captains (5-0) used a .228 hitting percentage to pace the three-set win. Bailey Jensen led the attack with a .519 hitting percentage that led to a match-high 16 kills. Jessie Kolden added 14 kills.
The Loggers played a tight second set, leading as late as the 15-14 mark and tying the set at 18-18 on a Captains' attacking error. However, the Captains made a late run to take the set 25-21.
In the third set, the Loggers found themselves in an early 13-4 hole. They went on an 8-2 run to close the match down to 15-12. The Captains were able to fend off the Loggers but they continued to close the gap until nearly the last point as Reynaud's final kill narrowed the gap to one point at 24-23 before the Captains sealed the match with the next point.
The Loggers will face another tough day tomorrow with matches against No. 9 Juniata at 8 a.m. (PT) and No. 5 Wittenberg at noon (PT).
