Loggers Brush Off Upset Attempt To Sweep George Fox

NEWBERG, Ore. – The Puget Sound volleyball team stayed perfect in conference play with a 30-28, 25-18, 25-20 win at George Fox on Friday. The Loggers improved to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the Northwest Conference while George Fox fell to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in the NWC.

Four Loggers hit double digits in digs, including 15 from Marissa Florant, 12 from Christina Chun and 11 from Brehove.

Florant also recorded eight kills in the match and hit .226. Nicolette Reynaud had three kills but recorded two solo blocks and two block assists as the Loggers worked hard at the net for seven team blocks.

George Fox looked primed for the upset in the first set as a nine-point run led to a 13-6 Bruin lead. Cassie Erwin recorded all three of her aces to fuel the bruin run. However, the Loggers slowly chipped away at the lead and forced some extra points to be played before eventually taking the set 30-28.

The Loggers quickly turned away any thoughts of an upset in the second and third sets, especially the third set. The Loggers jumped out to a 10-1 lead to begin the third set and then cruised to the sweep.

Erin Campbell had a match-high 14 kills for the Bruins while Chelsea Wilson added 21 digs to the effort.

The Loggers head to Pacific tomorrow night for another 7 p.m. match.
