TACOMA, Washington – The University of Puget Sound volleyball team opened its Northwest Conference slate with a 3-0 loss to visiting Whitman (25-23, 25-23, 25-18) on Friday night.
Moira McVicar continued her excellent play as a setter and recorded a game-high 34 assists. She has totaled at least 30 assists in four games this year.
The Loggers (1-9, 0-1 NWC) and Whitman (5-5, 1-0 NWC) battled back and forth throughout most of the first set as a Whitman service error evened the score, 15-15. However, a kill coupled with a pair of Puget Sound attack errors allowed Whitman to take an 18-15 lead, and it never relinquished its advantage.
Puget Sound played from behind for most of the second set, but the Loggers pulled to within 22-21 after an attack error by Whitman, but that's as close as Puget Sound would get down the stretch.
Puget Sound continues its NWC conference by hosting Whitworth on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 5 p.m.
