TACOMA, Washington – The University of Puget Sound volleyball team defeated Lewis & Clark in five sets, 3-2 (25-18, 25-20, 21-25, 22-25, 15-13) on Saturday evening.
The Loggers (9-13, 6-8 NWC) took the first two sets from the Pioneers (9-12, 6-8 NWC). The third set was a back-and-forth affair. The two teams were tied at 20-20, before L&C went on a 5-1 run to take the set and get back into the match. The Pioneers took the fourth set as well to force a fifth.
The Loggers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the decisive fifth set, forcing an early timeout by the visitors. The Pioneers fought back to a 10-10 tie, before Puget Sound pushed the lead back to three at 13-10. L&C tied the set at 13, but a kill by Katie Rice and block by Kristen Miguel and Hannah Stinson gave the victory to the Loggers.
The match also served as Senior Night for the Loggers. Seniors Isabella Graves, Heather Sangster, Emily Convery, and Shawna Smith were all honored before their match for their contributions to the Puget Sound program.
Puget Sound will next play Pacific Lutheran on Wednesday, November 4. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
