TACOMA, Washington – The Logger defense stifled George Fox as the Puget Sound volleyball team began its weekend with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-22) victory over the Bruins in Memorial Fieldhouse on Friday night.
George Fox (3-11, 1-6) was held to a .042 hitting percentage, while Rachael Garrison finished with a game-high 28 digs for the Loggers (11-4, 6-1 NWC). For its offensive efforts, Puget Sound hit .275 as Hannah Stinson and Katie Rice tied for the team-lead with nine kills apiece.
Puget Sound jumped out to a 14-7 lead in the first set, powered by three kills from Rice during that stretch. The Bruins pieced together a 5-1 run, but Puget Sound held on for a 25-22 win.
The Loggers completely dominated the second set, 25-11. A kill by Erika Smith gave Puget Sound a 12-5 edge and sparked a 7-1 run.
George Fox held closer with the Loggers in third and final set. The Bruins clung to a 21-20 advantage, but a kill by Kristen Lane evened the score. Rice added two more kills, and an ace by Kenneally was the final blow for the match.
The Loggers are back home on Saturday, Oct. 8, to host Willamette at 5 p.m.
