Volleyball hosts Dig Pink, Senior Night against Whits this weekend

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound volleyball team welcomes Whitworth and Whitman to Memorial Fieldhouse this weekend for the final two home games of the regular season.

Dig Pink

The Puget Sound Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is hosting Dig Pink on Friday night. SAAC members will be in attendance to collect donations for the Carol Milgard Breast Center in Tacoma.


Senior Night

Saturday marks the final regular-season home match for the Logger careers of seniors Kristen Lane and Riley Lawrence. The co-captains will be honored before the start of the game against Whitman.


Northwest Conference picture

Puget Sound enters the weekend tied with Pacific Lutheran for second place in the NWC. Although the crosstown rivals both have a 9-3 NWC record, the Loggers have defeated the Lutes three times this season (one non-conference match). Whitworth is in first place with an 11-1 conference mark.


Regional ranks

As of Oct. 26, Puget Sound is the only Northwest Conference team ranked in the NCAA West Region. With a 14-6 overall record, the Loggers are No. 8 in the region.


Making the most of opportunities

Hannah Stinson leads the Northwest Conference with a .343 hitting percentage. She also ranks fifth in kills (222) and kills per set (2.96). The junior is third in the league with 0.99 blocks per set.


Scouting Whitworth (17-5, 11-1 NWC)

The first-place Pirates' only conference loss this season came against the Loggers on Sept. 30. Whitworth had a 2-0 lead at home, but Puget Sound stormed back for a 3-2 victory. The Pirates lead the NWC in hitting percentage (.222) and kills per set (12.55). Erin White leads the league with 10.13 assists per set, and Brenna Bruils ranks second in the NWC with a .328 hitting percentage.


Scouting Whitman (9-11, 6-6 NWC)

One day after the Loggers' comeback victory at Whitworth, Whitman beat Puget Sound, 3-1. The team from Walla Walla, Washington, enters the weekend having lost three of its last four matches. Whitman leads the NWC with 2.17 blocks per set, and its 15.5 points per set is second to only Whitworth. Natalia Zea is the conference leader in blocks per set (1.14).
