GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Puget Sound volleyball team split its first two matches in a tournament hosted by Southwestern (Tex.) on Friday. The Loggers lost to Christopher Newport, 3-0, but bounced back with a 3-2 win over East Texas Baptist.

Despite committing only 10 errors, the Loggers were downed by the Captains in three sets. Freshman Alli Reviglio led Puget Sound with six kills and 10 digs.
The Loggers opened the first set with a 9-4 lead, but the Captains put together a quick 4-0 run. A kill from Rita Dexter increased the Logger lead to 10-8, yet Christopher Newport put together another imposing run that led to a 14-10 lead. The Captains won the first set, 25-22. The second set was even closer, 25-23, and the Loggers dropped the third set, 25-16.
Puget Sound 3, East Texas Baptist 2
Moira McVicar posted 58 assists as Puget Sound (3-3) overcame a 2-1 deficit to top the Tigers in five sets, 3-2. Neither side led by more than one point in the fifth set until Rita Dexter's kill gave Puget Sound a 6-4 edge. The Tigers tied it up, 8-8, until consecutive kills by freshman Melanie Siacotos put the Loggers on top, 10-8.
Dexter tallied a team-high 18 kills, and Miguel followed with 14. McVicar added 18 digs, while Rachael Garrison led the Loggers with 26.
Puget Sound wraps up its Texas trip against hosts No. 3 Southwestern (Tex.) at 12 p.m. (PT).
