Team effort leads to 3-1 win over Pacific

TACOMA, Washington – Three different Loggers recorded double-digit kills as the Puget Sound volleyball team beat Pacific, 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-17, 25-17), Saturday night in Memorial Fieldhouse.

Rita Dexter and Kristen Miguel both finished with game-highs of 13 kills. Just one day after setting a personal season-high in kills with 11, Melanie Siacotos tallied 12 kills against the Boxers (14-6, 7-5 NWC).

After splitting the first two sets, the Loggers (8-11, 5-7 NWC) raced out to a 6-0 lead in the third set. Katarina Moffett had two services aces during the run, and Miguel added two kills. Puget Sound prevented Pacific from piecing together as many as three consecutive points during the third set.

Pacific had a short-lived 2-0 lead in the fourth set, but Puget Sound grabbed a 4-3 advantage and never relinquished its lead.

Moira McVicar tallied 48 assists in the winning effort, and Rachael Garrison had a game-high 29 digs.

The Loggers totaled 10 blocks on the evening, while Pacific managed half as many.

Puget Sound returns to Memorial Fieldhouse for Senior Weekend starting on Friday, Oct. 27, against Willamette at 7 p.m.
