TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound volleyball team closed out its 2017 home season in dramatic fashion on Senior Night, beating Linfield, 3-2 (19-25, 25-21, 15-25, 25-15, 15-9), in Memorial Fieldhouse Saturday night.
Puget Sound (10-11, 7-7 NWC) beat Linfield (9-12, 3-11 NWC) in five sets in both of their matchups this fall.
Senior Rita Dexter notched her second consecutive double-double by tallying 17 kills and 15 digs. Freshman Melanie Siacotos finished with double-digit kills for the fourth consecutive match, recording 11 against the Wildcats.
Both teams played a strong game at the net. The Loggers totaled 12 blocks, while the Wildcats came away with 10.
Linfield claimed the first two points of the decisive fifth set, but consecutive Wildcat errors tied the score. The teams traded points until the Loggers went on a 6-1 run. After being tied, 4-4, Linfield committed two errors and Katarina Moffett put away a pair of kills to give Puget Sound an 8-5 lead. The advantage grew to 10-5 following two more Linfield errors.
Dexter's emphatic last kill provided the match-winning point.
The Loggers are back in action at Pacific Lutheran on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m.
