Logger volleyball to host Senior Night, Dig Pink this weekend

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound volleyball team prepares for its final home weekend of the regular season, including Dig Pink and Senior Night, when the Loggers host Whitworth and Whitman, Oct. 26-27.

Fans are encouraged to wear PINK to Friday night's contest for breast cancer awareness. 

 

Senior sendoff

Prior to the start of Saturday night's match against Whitman, Puget Sound will honor its four senior members and their loved ones: Madie Lage, Kristen Miguel, Katarina Moffett, and Marcelle Rutherfurd.

 

NWC picture

The Loggers enter this weekend tied with Pacific for third place in the Northwest Conference, as both teams are 8-4 in conference. Pacific Lutheran is in second with a 10-2 league mark, and Whitworth is 11-1.

 

Keeping their wits

Puget Sound beat Whitworth on the road in dramatic fashion earlier this season (Sept. 28). The Pirates claimed a 2-0 lead, but the Loggers rallied to stun the Pirates in five sets. Puget Sound totaled 10 blocks and hit .189. The following day, the Loggers beat Whitman in Walla Walla, Washington, 3-1.

 

Coming up aces

Puget Sound continues to be the most prominent NWC team in serving. Jordan Holman leads the conference in services aces per set (0.53), and Alli Reviglio is second (0.52). As a team, Puget Sound leads the conference with 2.21 service aces per set.

 

Block party

Puget Sound ranks second in the NWC for blocks per set (1.93). Melanie Siacotos ranks third in the conference for blocks per set (0.97), and Sadie Alloway is eighth (0.72).

 

Scouting Whitworth (17-6, 11-1 NWC)

The Pirates enter this weekend with four consecutive wins, and seven wins in their last eight matches. They lead the NWC in kills per set (13.34) and rank second in hitting percentage (.213). Jessica Schmautz has a team-high 351 kills, and Irish Tikhonov leads Whitworth in total blocks with 59.

 

Scouting Whitman (8-12, 4-8 NWC)

The Blues enter the weekend with six losses in their last eight contests, and they will play No. 17 Pacific Lutheran Friday, before taking on the Loggers Saturday. Whitman's 1.91 blocks per set narrowly trails the Loggers' 1.93 average. Codie Conching has a team-high 219 kills, and Brooke Randall has 72 blocks.
