TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound volleyball team was unable to win both matches against Whitworth in 2018, as the Pirates claimed a 3-0 (25-20, 25-24, 25-22) victory in Memorial Fieldhouse Friday night.
The Loggers (11-10, 8-5 NWC) are the only team in the Northwest Conference to beat Whitworth (18-6, 12-1 NWC) this season. Puget Sound was victorious, 3-2, in Spokane, Washington (Sept. 28).
Each of the three sets were closely contested Friday night. The Loggers were down 22-20 in the second set, but consecutive kills by Sadie Alloway tied it up. A kill by Alyssa Wright kept the set even, 23-23, but Whitworth notched the next two points.
Puget Sound trailed by six, 21-15, in the third set, but the Loggers stormed back and a service ace by Sydney Voss cut the deficit to 21-20. A kill by Jordan Holman kept the Loggers within one point, 22-21, but Whitworth closed the match with a 3-1 run.
